The Munich mobile-content service provider Gofresh wants to launch what it says is the first European user-generated mobile TV channel in its community itsmy.com (mobile.itsmy.com) in October 2006, independently of the network operators’ portals. According to the operator, the Gofresh community itsmy.com is among the world’s fastest-growing mobile web communities, with active users from more than 80 countries. More than 55 percent of users would have mobile phones with TV and/or video support, the company explains.

At the launch of the service, Gofresh plans to present three formats: “itsmyCityTV”, “Funniest Clips” and “NickpageTV”, a new format in which all users of the community have the opportunity to design and host the show themselves from their mobile phone. This would make the job of the classic VJ superfluous. The most active and strongest-communicating community members are to take over that part.

In addition, the mobile TV platform developed by Gofresh itself offers advertising partners the option of feeding existing TV spots into various shows and selecting spot placement according to a wide range of criteria such as user profile, mobile phones, preferences.

“For us, user-generated content in the mobile TV area means the active involvement of customers,” explains Gofresh managing director Antonio Vince Staybl: “Through this new service, TV viewers now have a return channel to their program. This increases the attractiveness for the viewer, but also for our advertising partners.”
