Comverse, a provider of software and systems for network-based multimedia communications services and billing systems, is launching the Quad Play Suite, a four-in-one solution that combines IPTV middleware with applications for fixed-line, mobile and video telephony. The product is intended to enable the various service providers to gain fast and affordable access to the quad-play market.
With the suite, fixed-line providers, Internet providers or virtual network operators can offer their customers easy access to personalized communication, entertainment and information services – and on multiple devices such as fixed-line telephone, mobile phone, television and PC. Depending on customer wishes, the extensive combination solution supports fixed-line, mobile and video telephony in addition to services such as live TV and Video on Demand. Services such as instant messaging, Internet access, interactive video offerings and Digital Rights Management (DRM) are also flexibly possible. Connections to Media Center PS and external billing systems can be established easily. Service providers can offer individual service packages adapted to the lifestyle and needs of their customers. Based on Netcentrex MyCall Voice and Video over IP technology, the Quad Play Suite uses an IP Multimedia Subsystem architecture (IMS) to enable convergent services across different networks.
“There is agreement in the industry that bundled offerings such as Triple and Quad Play achieve profitability in the long term, yet they are currently available only to a limited extent. Initial investments have so far been very high and the integration of the various components very complex. The integrated Quad Play Suite is intended to facilitate access to the quad-play market,” explains Olivier Hersent, Technical Director of Netcentrex Converged IP Communications at Comverse. “With our quad-play solution,” Hersent continues, “providers can offer bundled and at the same time individually tailored services and thereby increase profits and customer loyalty and secure a larger share of their customers’ communications and entertainment spending.”
Tom Valovic, IDC Program Director, is convinced that Quad Play opens up more business opportunities than Triple Play. “Consumers demand personalized entertainment and communications options, and that in both fixed and mobile networks. The successful providers will be those that offer bundled packages with IPTV, fixed-line, mobile and video telephony and that take personal interests and user profiles into account.”
