Adobe Systems today announced the acquisition of vector-graphics technology developed by Actimagine. Actimagine develops, patents and licenses software in the fields of video and interactive vector graphics. While Flash technology is already established in many high-quality mobile phones, with the acquisition of the new software Adobe is now also expanding its range of mobile technologies – which also includes Flash Lite – to mobile devices in the mass market. The companies have also agreed that Actimagine will include existing and future versions of Flash Lite technology in its service offering.
“Our goal is to provide mobile operators and mobile-phone manufacturers with the necessary technologies with which they can offer consumers a broad range of functions for mobile phones of all kinds,” explains Al Ramadan, Senior Vice President, Mobile and Device Solutions Business Unit at Adobe. “Through the acquisition of Actimagine’s vector-graphics technology, we can now also extend our range of software solutions to the widely usde mobile devices of the mass market and open up new market segments.”
Actimagine CEO Andre Pagnac describes the collaboration as an opportunity to expand the use of Flash technology further and make the functionalities availble for mass-market mobile phones as well. His company also intends to combine Flash and Mobiclip – the Actimagine Video Codec Software.
According to Adobe, Flash Lite enables users to reduce content implementation costs and use the content three to five times faster than with competing solutions. According to the company, more than 115 million devices with Flash technology are already in circulation today.
