Initially as a public beta, Adobe presented a new audio tool at its MAX user conference in Las Vegas. Soundbooth is intended to replace Audition in Adobe’s Production Suite in the medium term. While the software manufacturer plans to upgrade Audition into a high-end tool for broadcast use, Soundbooth is positioned significantly below it.
Adobe envisions creatives using the newly developed software to create and edit high-quality audio sequences for incorporation into web and video workflows without special training or education in sound production. Close integration with Flash and Premiere Pro is intended to enable users to remove background noise from their recordings quickly and easily, optimize spoken text and edit pieces of music so that they fit into the overall production.
Soundbooth offers the user an interface with easy-to-use visual tools. They can be used to record new tracks for dialogue, sound effects and other audio content. The user can prepare existing audio files with functions such as cut, copy, paste, fade, stretch or the addition of effects.
Soundbooth can be used to import, edit and supplement audio content from Premiere Pro. The software also supports Flash animations. It exports markers for cues as an XML file that can then be used in Flash with Actionscript.
Soundbooth is currently available as a public beta for Intel Macs and Windows on the Adobe Labs website. The version is time-limited until February 28, 2007. However, some codecs are currently not yet implemented for licensing reasons.
