For the nationwide launch of the “Comedy Central” comedy TV channel, the Berlin multimedia agency Exozet Interact technically implemented the corresponding web presence and put it online. The comedy portal relies on a completely new connection between TV and the Internet and opens up a wide range of interaction options for users. At the centre of the website, alongside information about the channel, the shows and comedians, are above all the community and the active user, who can put possible content for the TV programme online.

Videos with programme content from the shows, background reports, exclusive contributions and self-produced comedy can be played via a video player provided by Exozet and rated and commented on by registered users. In the “Your Comedy” area, exozet has created several options for submitting user-generated content. Here, members can demonstrate their comedic skill in the form of videos, images and text and have themselves rated by the web audience via the voting and comment function or proposed directly to the TV editorial team via the “broadcast this” button. Popular videos, whether show content or produced under their own direction, can be forwarded by web users to friends and published in blogs.

The “exozet.cms framework R4” is used for the channel’s Internet presence as the central content management system including image management and structured workflow, which is intended to make maintaining the website considerably easier for the Comedy Central editorial team. As a special feature, exozet emphasises that editors can automatically create animated Flash teasers via the CMS. In addition, the navigation structure is supported by a cross-page keyword system in order to enable connections and references within the various content. The technical basis for the video streaming content is provided by TVNEXT – a playback platform for streaming content such as video, audio, Flash films and graphics that, according to the company, has so far been unique in Germany.
