Focus Enhancements has released software version 3.0 for the FS-100 disk recorder. The update records native DVCPRO HD at 720/24p, 25p and 30p, doubling the unit’s storage capacity. It also records native QuickTime files in DVCPRO50 and DVCPRO HD for direct import into Final Cut Pro. QuickTime support includes as many as four digital audio channels.
Recording in a native PN mode increases FS-100 capacity from 100 minutes to more than 200 minutes. Because the recorder stores only required frames, the DVCPRO HD data rate falls to 40Mbit/s.
Cameras such as the Panasonic AG-HVX200 P2 do not output native frames through FireWire. When the camera operates at 720/24p, 25p or 30p, the FS-100 processor generates the native format.
Owners of existing FS-100 units could order the upgrade by email from the German distributor for €35. Units purchased after 1 February included a voucher for the update.
