MFD to Compare DVB-H and DMB at IFA

MFD will let IFA visitors compare mobile television delivered through DVB-H and DMB.

MFD Mobiles Fernsehen Deutschland will demonstrate mobile television over both DMB and DVB-H at IFA in Berlin from 31 August to 5 September 2007. Visitors can compare the competing transmission technologies at the MFD stand in Hall 26, stand 217.

“At our IFA stand, every visitor can try the image quality and operation of mobile TV personally,” said MFD Managing Director Dr Jens Stender. “Mobile television over DMB is already available in Germany. In Berlin, we will also provide a preview of the mobile-TV future with DVB-H.”

MFD said its mobile-TV service was available in sixteen metropolitan areas covering around sixteen million residents. Five channels were carried through its watcha service: Das Erste, ZDF, MTV Music, N24 and ProSiebenSat.1 Mobile, which was designed specifically for mobile reception.

The company uses DMB to distribute its television signals but describes itself as technology-neutral. It has also applied to every German state media authority for DVB-H broadcasting licences. Up to sixteen channels are planned for future DVB-H transmission in Germany.
