Südwestrundfunk has appointed Studio Hamburg Media Consult International as general contractor for the planning and construction of an HDTV compact studio in Baden-Baden. MCI described it as the first HD-capable studio in the entire ARD network. It will primarily produce magazine programmes.
Alongside studios A and B, the facility includes audio and vision control rooms, a VTR and playout room, and equipment rooms. Virtual-set productions in Studio B use components from Vizrt, Ultimatte and Shotoku.
Vision control includes camera control, a studio server for playout and a 2.5 M/E production switcher. The audio control room uses a Lawo mc²66 console and supports 5.1 production.
With the exception of Class A measurement monitors, the monitoring installation uses Focus displays in 17-, 23- and 47-inch sizes. The professional TFT displays are designed to prevent image sticking, minimise motion blur and operate silently.
MCI is designing the studio and control-room furniture with its long-standing partner KWOD Design and manufacturing the custom units in its own workshops.
