With the release of the German versions, FileMaker is also launching a completely revised website with extensive details on FileMaker 9 as well as further technical information. The updated technology pages contain valuable background details on connection to SQL, the standards for data exchange via ODBC/JDBC, the XML web standard, web publishing and much more. According to Dominique Goupil, President of FileMaker, Inc., the new version represents the biggest leap in years. Conditional formatting, a revised PHP Site Assistant and access to external SQL data sources are said to be the three outstanding characteristics among the many new features.
Another example of easy use is also the Direct Start screen, which simplifies handling of the database, especially for newcomers. The newly introduced conditional formatting allows the FileMaker user to format selected data fields in a user-defined way. The PHP Site Assistant in FileMaker 9 now also enables non-programmers to create PHP sites simply. Further, with corresponding approval, access to external SQL databases can now take place. Data are edited via so-called shadow tables and, for example, reportings will be created quickly and easily.
