Hardware calibration is designed to provide accurate reproduction for video editing, preview, monitoring and animation production. LCD displays were beginning to replace CRT monitors in these fields. The CG241W is compatible with widely used Avid and Autodesk video-editing and animation systems, supporting common resolutions and refresh rates including Full HD. Supported frequencies include 60p, 59.94p, 50p, 48p and 47.8p for film, video and television production.
The CG241W uses 16-bit processing to resolve image signals at 1/65,536 precision and map them to RGB pixels without merging colour values. This preserves colour nuances and image structure, particularly in dark tonal ranges. Combined with a broad brightness and contrast range, the monitor differentiates detail in both bright and dark image content.
EIZO adjusts each ColorGraphic LCD at the factory using dedicated measurement equipment. Every tonal value from 0 to 255 is measured separately for each RGB channel to maintain a consistent colour temperature across the greyscale. This addresses variations between conventional LCD panels in the relationship between input signal and brightness.
Consistent white points and tone curves are important when projects move through several stages and displays. The CG241W includes a 12-bit lookup table for white balance and hardware calibration. The bundled ColorNavigator software accesses this LUT directly, allowing users to define colour temperature, brightness, black level and tone curve. The gamma response can therefore be set for each unit.
EIZO’s Digital Uniformity Equalizer is designed to maintain colour purity and uniform brightness across the panel. It detects and compensates for irregularities in real time.
The EIZO CG241W is scheduled to become available in mid-August for €1,959.
