GCDC 2007 Opens with Record Attendance

The fifth GC Developers Conference opened with more than 870 attendees and sessions on online gaming, outsourcing, and business development.

Leipziger Messe chief executive Wolfgang Marzin welcomed participants from more than 35 countries. He said the 2007 programme would provide insight into new business areas, new approaches, and the dynamics of game development.

Julian Eggebrecht of Factor 5 returned to GCDC for the second time after 2005. His opening keynote, “No Sex, No Drugs, and a Little Rock ‘n’ Roll,” examined developers’ own standards in game production and the subject of censorship. Eggebrecht described GCDC as a key game-industry event and an opportunity to exchange experience with other specialists.

Through 22 August, 125 international publishing and development experts were scheduled to take part in more than 80 sessions on current interactive-entertainment topics.

Other speakers included Michael Capps and Mark Rein of Epic Games, Noah Falstein of The Inspiracy, Alexánder and Hector Fernandez of Streamline Studios, Megan Gaiser of Her Interactive, Fred Hasson of TIGA, Jennifer MacLean of Comcast Interactive Media, Tim Schafer of Double Fine Productions, Christopher Schmitz of Ubisoft, and Bob Wallace of Strategic Alternatives.
