Marketed as a universal PC and television, the Vaio LT ships with a wireless keyboard that can be folded closed. Sony uses glass for the frame and surround of the 22-inch display. Unlike the new Apple iMacs, the high-end Sony configuration includes a Blu-ray drive for playing and recording HD films. The screen has a resolution of 1,680 × 1,050 pixels. Sony’s XBRITE-HiColor system is intended to produce sharp, high-contrast LCD images, although Sony has not disclosed the graphics chip used inside.
The announcement is similarly silent on the planned hard-drive capacity and processor specification. It states only that an Intel Core 2 Duo processor and two gigabytes of memory will be installed. The device can also operate like a conventional television for displaying HDTV and includes a separate remote control. The Vaio LT additionally supports the new 802.11n WLAN standard and includes an integrated 1.3-megapixel camera.
The LT series is initially scheduled for release in the United States. Launch prices for October are listed at US$1,900 for the entry model and €2,900 for the Blu-ray version.
