The storage-solutions provider presented its A-Series Professional Video solutions at IBC 2007. The SuperLoader 3A is from now also available for LTO (Linear Tape Open) tape drives – initially for LTO-3. Quantum is thus supplying video professionals with a new high-performance archive solution with up to 6.4 TB of (native) capacity of transportable storage in an MXF-capable file system.
The SuperLoader 3A with LTO-3 is based on A-Series technology, which, with a file-based workflow, is geared specifically toward storage environments in the professional video field. Based on proven IT-standard tape technology, the SuperLoader 3A comprises one or two storage magazines, each with eight tape cartridges, in a 2U rackmount-capable enclosure. Individual tapes can be loaded or removed through the front “Mail” slot. The magazines can likewise be exchanged for bulk loading, unloading or storage.
SuperLoader 3A can be connected directly to the network via Gigabit Ethernet and the integrated FTP server, thereby offering workstations and servers direct access via IT networks. MXF makes it possible to access video sequences via timecodes, similar to video tapes. The metadata stored on tape is also quickly available in this way. The MXF capability of the SuperLoader 3A thus ensures interoperability with many professional video applications and environments.
The SuperLoader 3A with LTO-3 will be available from autumn 2007. The price is around 12 000 US dollars.
