For this purpose, NDS presented the NDS Unified Headend technology for the first time. This integration platform allows service providers to control content centrally in order to design cross-media offerings across a wide variety of distribution channels.
In order to protect premium content and services on PC-based and mobile devices as well, the manufacturer showed current software generation of VideoGuard DRM Home Entertainment. The security infrastructure serves to control digital rights (DRM) and enables application scenarios such as the exchange of content between different display media with the VideoGuard Key and the downloading of content to portable media players over a Wifi network, including with limited periods of use. Comprehensive TV functions on the PC are also possible, with live TV, DVR, EPG and VOD as well as TV distribution over the Internet, with VOD unicasting and downloading of content.
The secured exchange of content in a peer-to-peer network and Secured download of online content as well as transfer to portable storage media are likewise supported.
The company also demonstrated solutions in the expanded field digital pay TV: For example, the NDS Mobile TV multi-standard solution for displaying a full-service TV offering on mobile devices. The complete solution also supports encryption and DRM function on memory cards for mobile devices and includes functions such as electronic service guides (ESG), mobile digital video recorders (DVR) and various interactive applications. In the IPTV field, NDS presented the Metro complete solution.
The technology platform combines NDS’s security and middleware components, thus allowing services such as live TV, VOD, DVR, network-based DVR, interactive services and communication services – clearly presented in an electronic programme guide.?MediaHighway Middleware shows the current state of development for expanded application scenarios such as hybrid set-top boxes, home networking and Internet-based online services. On the basis of MediaHighway, NDS showed ways to represent business models as a mix of interactive services, pay TV and advertising-financed television.
NDS EPGs show the result of collaboration in graphic design, usability expertise and system integration for an intuitive user experience based on the electronic programme guide. XTV DVR is the digital video recorder solution used most frequently worldwide. At IBC, NDS is presenting new functions such as Push VOD, remote programming, expanded HD and EPG features, segmentation and indexing through to forward-looking interactive applications and VOD over IP.
