At IBC 2007, the two companies are demonstrating interactive applications live for the first time as an integral part of TV broadcasts over a mobile broadcasting network. The demonstration of the MediaFLO platform with conVISUAL’s applications shows how mobile-phone users with a MediaFLO-capable device can seamlessly participate interactively in a television show.
For example, broadcasts can be watched on a mobile phone while information about show stars is retrieved in parallel with the television broadcast, polls and quiz questions are answered and viewers chat live with other viewers. The current television programme is not interrupted.
Using conVISUAL’s interactive TV platform and functions of the MediaFLO system, interactive services are transmitted live via MediaFLO IP Datacasting to mobile TV viewers as part of the proof-of-concept presentation. These services relate to the TV programme being shown and are firmly integrated into the storylines of several television shows known worldwide. By using a split-screen display, viewers have the opportunity to watch television and simultaneously interact with the television programme or other viewers by SMS. conVISUAL’s servers process the SMS traffic in real time and bring information such as poll results and chat messages directly to the mobile-phone display. MediaFLO IP Datacasting and an integrated player are used for this.
