Apple today presented Logic Studio. For just 479 euros, musicians receive with this extensive suite of professional tools everything one needs to compose, produce and perform in the studio or on stage. Logic Studio contains Logic Pro 8, a major upgrade that combines an intuitive new interface with Logic’s sound quality and solid timing.

With MainStage, Logic Studio offers a new application for live performances that turns the Mac into a powerful live rig. Logic Studio also includes Apple’s audio post-production software Soundtrack Pro 2. Furthermore, the suite comprises Studio Instruments, consisting of 40 high-quality instruments; Studio Effects, with 80 effect plug-ins; a huge library of studio sounds and an extensive collection of production programs.

The core of Logic Studio is Logic Pro 8, now with a one-window interface for immediate access to music creation and production functions, including “snap-to-transient” selection as well as sample-accurate editing directly in the arrange window. New audio production tools such as “Quick Swipe Comping” and dynamic creation of channel strips accelerate the completion of everyday tasks. Logic Pro 8 also offers the possibility of end-to-end surround production through innovative Surround Panning controls, multichannel tracks and buses and support for genuine surround software instruments and effects.

MainStage turns the Mac into a powerful rig. Whether one makes music with it at home, uses it in a rehearsal situation, or plays in front of an audience: MainStage produces a reliable, consistent sound. On-screen controls couple the software plug-ins with the hardware knobs, faders and buttons, so that musicians can continue to perform live with their familiar favorite equipment. An easy-to-read, interactive display specially designed to be recognizable even over greater distances in dim light shows exactly the information one needs on stage. Professional templates make set-up easier, giving musicians more time to explore and create their own unique sound.

Soundtrack Pro 2 is software for scoring moving images with professional editing tools and seamless film and video integration. It facilitates all aspects of the Audio Post-Production process. Musicians can compose their film music in Logic Pro 8 and then use Soundtrack Pro 2 to edit dialogue, design sound effects and complete the mix in cinematic sound.

With 40 instrument plug-ins, Studio Instruments enables musicians to access and play with almost every sound imaginable. It includes advanced versions of the Ultrabeat, Sculpture and ES2 synthesizers and the EXS24 sampler. Studio Effects contains a new Delay Designer plug-in that offers the greatest possible control over individual delay taps. The Space Designer plug-in now offers True Surround advancement for multichannel audio processing. Logic Studio puts a huge library of studio sounds consisting of the contents of the five Jam Pack collections and the sound library of Final Cut Studio 2 into musicians’ hands. A total of 18,000 Apple Loops, 1,300 EXS instruments and 5,000 sound effects from a wide variety of genres and styles are thus available to the Logic Studio user. The production programs consist of WaveBurner for mastering CDs, Compressor 3 for encoding in surround format, a special Apple Loops application as well as a new impulse resonance program for capturing the acoustics of a real performance environment.

Logic Studio is available now at the recommended retail price of 479 euros including value-added tax. Registered users of Logic Pro 7 receive an upgrade to Logic Studio for 199 euros incl. VAT. Customers who purchased Logic Pro 7 on or after August 1, 2007 are entitled to a free upgrade to Logic Studio (for a small shipping and handling fee). The complete system requirements, as well as more detailed information about Logic Studio, including a list of certified, compatible hardware and software, can be found on the website.
