The artist network for Mobile Visuals & Sounds, BerlinCalling.de, launches on October 9, 2007. The portal is intended to serve as an intermediary between creatives and industry in the area of mobile entertainment. According to BerlinCalling, more and more companies want to refresh their brands with mobile marketing campaigns and address target groups via mobile phone as well with surprising ideas. The portal is intended to provide the necessary basis for this, in the form of a comprehensive database with high-quality entertaining as well as format-compatible top content from a wide variety of categories specifically for mobile use.

The content comes from creatives from all over the world. To address and attract creatives, BerlinCalling offers the associated “Social Network”, a web portal in which artists can profile themselves, get in contact with one another and present their video, sound or animation creations. According to operator information, the decisive difference from previous community portals is that the artists can participate directly in BerlinCalling’s revenues.

According to its own statement, BerlinCalling.de has concluded worldwide distribution agreements with mobile operators and marketing aggregators for this purpose. The company guarantees the contracted artists a fair and transparent share of 50 percent of the marketing revenues, without the artists surrendering their copyrights.

Behind the idea of BerlinCalling is Tom Lang, a musician and video artist from Berlin who contributed to more than 50 film and advertising productions. Lang, who himself worked as Chief Producer and content manager at Jamba and Bourginio, among others, wants to take action worldwide with the alternative offering. Transparency and Fairtrade are “especially in the digital age of piracy” in the foreground for the initiator, a statement says.

BerlinCalling is a subsidiary of aperto move, the Berlin media service agency for voice, video and mobile applications. aperto move focuses on the conception, realization and operation of interactive campaigns and value-added services with the goal of establishing telephone mobile applications as full-fledged dialogue media.
