Axel Meyer Expands XDCAM Camera Pool

The Berlin television company adds a fifth Sony PDW-530 to its disc-based XDCAM pool for sport, news and magazine production.

Axel Meyer Fernsehproduktionen added another Sony PDW-530 camera to expand its disc-based XDCAM operation.

The Berlin company’s pool then comprised five cameras, one PDW-1500 recorder and four PDW-D1 computer drives. It had used XDCAM since early 2006.

The equipment initially handled sports coverage produced largely with WIGE Media, including boxing, ski jumping and Formula One assignments for RTL.

Axel Meyer also moved the format into news and factual production for ARD Morgenmagazin, ARD’s Berlin studio, Plusminus, Quarks & Co and Nano.

The company was evaluating a move to high definition. It identified Sony’s planned XDCAM HD 422 camera with 2/3-inch sensors as a possible route because existing 2/3-inch lenses could be reused.
