Getty Images launched Soundtrack, an online music-licensing service developed by Pump Audio.
The catalogue provided direct access to more than 20,000 original recordings from independent artists and bands. Licences covered radio, television, film, advertising and other media projects.
Getty had acquired Pump Audio in June 2007. The new service was designed to let creative and publishing teams search for and clear music through the same platform used for other digital media.
Pump Audio’s customers included MTV, BBC, Discovery and New Line Cinema. Getty said participating artists would receive recognition and payment for licensed work.
The company planned to expand Soundtrack beyond the independent catalogue through agreements with major labels, music publishers and other rights holders.
