MFD Mobiles Fernsehen Deutschland and Neva Media agreed to establish Mobile 3.0 as a joint venture for mobile television in Germany.
Both companies had applied for approval to operate the platform for a national DVB-H service. Mobile 3.0 planned to work with programme providers and telecommunications companies on television and supplementary services for handheld devices.
Subject to approval by the regional media authorities, the venture intended to begin DVB-H broadcasting in Germany by 2008. The Federal Cartel Office had already cleared the new company.
Neva Media’s shareholders included Hubert Burda Media and the Georg von Holtzbrinck publishing group. Naspers, the largest shareholder in MFD, also supported the venture.
The partners combined technology, content, marketing and financial resources with the aim of creating an independent mobile-television platform.
