SWR Rebuilds Kaiserslautern Studio

SWR invests about €4 million in its Kaiserslautern studio, concert hall and multimedia production facilities.

Südwestrundfunk planned to invest about €4 million in renovating and expanding its Kaiserslautern studio complex.

The project included a complete refurbishment and redesign of the Emmerich Smola concert hall. SWR also planned technical upgrades for the German Radio Philharmonic Saarbrücken Kaiserslautern and its multimedia editorial operation.

The broadcaster intended to preserve the hall’s historic character while adding new production and cultural-use options. Construction was scheduled for completion in spring 2009, followed by technical commissioning of the production units by autumn 2009.

SWR’s administrative council had approved the project, and the city had responded positively to the preliminary building application.
