MFD Mobiles Fernsehen Deutschland and NEVA Media formed Mobile 3.0 as a joint platform company for mobile television in Germany.
Both companies had applied for approval to operate services using DVB-H, the Digital Video Broadcasting standard for handheld receivers. Mobile 3.0 planned to work with programme providers and telecommunications operators on television and complementary services.
The company intended to begin DVB-H broadcasts in Germany by 2008 if state media authorities granted the necessary platform licence. Germany’s Federal Cartel Office had already approved the joint venture.
NEVA Media’s shareholders included Hubert Burda Media and Georg von Holtzbrinck, while Naspers was the largest shareholder in MFD.
