With subtitles now included in searches, the “Triple Search” process developed by artec technologies is being used in full for the first time. Searches with the first television search engine on the internet therefore return more results with greater accuracy. The site’s design has also been improved. Alongside a new layout and additional functions such as newsletter subscriptions, VideoSnooper.tv is now available in English for the first time.
The TV search engine http://www.VideoSnooper.tv launched online in September 2007 and is freely accessible to all users as a test version. It recorded more than 10,000 visitors per hour in the first few hours after going live. At first glance, VideoSnooper.tv works like many other search engines: users enter search terms in an input field and start the search with a mouse click. The major difference is that VideoSnooper.tv does not search the internet; it searches the complete television schedules of 22 channels for the entered terms. The TV search engine displays its results in a list showing when and on which channel the search term was mentioned. The special feature is that VideoSnooper.tv provides a relevant video clip for every result. Clicking a search result does not take the user to a website but plays a short excerpt from the program in which the term appears. Visitors to VideoSnooper.tv can therefore quickly check where their favorite stars appeared on television or which programs mentioned the topic they were looking for.
