RapidShare is expanding its hosting platform again: The Internet connection has been expanded to 170 gigabits per second (Gbit/s), and with the new servers users can now store a total of four petabytes of data. The expansion absorbs the strong

increase in use recorded by RapidShare: Alexa’s analysis of Internet-data streams shows that in the past three months 32 percent more people visited the site than before. According to Alexa, this corresponds to a share of 5.4 percent of all Internet users worldwide. This moved rapidshare.com up to 12th place in the ranking of the most frequently visited sites internationally. In Germany, the hosting platform occupies 16th place behind Spiegel Online.

The access capacity to rapidshare.com now corresponds to the maximum bandwidth of around 85,000 DSL 2,000 connections. By connecting through six different carriers, RapidShare ensures short routes worldwide: Because of the diversification, many customers no longer need the detour via third-party networks or several public

Internet nodes. Since they can also choose the carrier for upload and download themselves, they are able to choose the connection optimally tailored to their country and Internet service provider for data transfer. The multiply redundant connection at the same time reduces the probability of failure.

“The need to transfer larger files has once again risen sharply in recent months. Apparently, more and more people are discovering that it is convenient and secure to send data via RapidShare. In addition, it takes only a few minutes and costs nothing,” explains Bobby Chang, managing director of RapidShare. “The patches and demos that we make available via RapidGames are also gladly used. In order to continue to offer the customary high level of convenience,

we continually adapt our platform to the needs of our users.”
