More than 250 guests attended the award ceremony for the third „CNN Journalist Award“ at the Ellington Hotel on Monday. For the first time, the presentation took place in Berlin. Austrian journalist Christoph Feurstein prevailed against more than 300 young colleagues from Germany, Austria and Switzerland and was named „CNN Journalist of the Year 2007“ for his television report on the 20th anniversary of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster.
The winners of the CNN Journalist Award 2007 are Henning Sußebach (Print category), Frank Kühn (Radio category), Dara Hassanzadeh & Philipp Müller (Online category), Christian Langbehn (Photo category) and Christoph Feurstein (TV category and “CNN Journalist of the Year”).
The young journalists met renowned colleagues from Germany and abroad. Tony Maddox, Chairman of the CNN Journalist Awards and new head of CNN International, came to Berlin especially to present the evening’s main prize, “CNN Journalist of the Year”, together with Medienboard Managing Director Petra Müller. Among the well-known journalists, publishers and newsmakers were DW-World Editor-in-Chief Uta Thofern, Focus Editor-in-Chief Uli Baur, Dominik Wichmann, Editor-in-Chief of SZ-Magazin, Klaus Liedtke, Editor-in-Chief National Geographic, N24 Editor-in-Chief Peter Limbourg and his colleague Ueli Haldimann from Swiss Television, taz Editor-in-Chief Bascha Mika. The CNN Journalist Award was supported by Medienboard and Medienanstalt Berlin-Brandenburg as well as AOL, n-tv, Audi and Mont Blanc.
At the same time, the top-class event with an international reputation marked the start of the two-day international NewsXchange conference on October 25 and 26, to which more than 400 news journalists from around 50 countries, including the USA, United Kingdom, Russia, Iran, Lebanon, Turkey, Serbia, Romania, India, China, Japan and many more, are expected in the capital. The host broadcaster of NewsXchange is Berlin-based Deutsche Welle.
With 10,000 journalists, more than 400 foreign correspondents, 60 national and international television stations with correspondent offices, 94 nationwide daily newspapers, 14 daily newspapers, three weekly newspapers, four Sunday editions and 79 advertising papers, Berlin has developed into one of Europe’s most important news hubs.
