The digital programme packages from Kabel Deutschland (Kabel Digital Home and Kabel Digital International) have reached the mark of 750,000 subscribers. In just 38 months, Kabel Deutschland has thus developed into the second-largest provider of subscription TV packages behind Premiere. Among households connected to its own cable network, Kabel Deutschland has even caught up with market leader Premiere. The Kabel Digital programme packages are therefore among the fastest-growing subscription TV bouquets in Europe.
New channels in the package
In the interests of subscribers, Kabel Deutschland is continuously working to improve the programme offerings in the packages. Since the launch in September 2004, eight channels alone have been newly added to the German-language Kabel Digital Home package: Spiegel TV digital, Gute Laune TV, kabel eins classics, Sat.1 Comedy, The Biography Channel, Turner Classic Movies as well as the cartoon channels Cartoon Network and Boomerang. From November 1, 2007, Kabel Digital Home subscribers can look forward to four new music channels from JUST MUSIC.TV at once: the programmes Rock TV (RCK TV: with Hard Rock, Metal, Alternative), Relax TV (RLX TV: with Lounge, Chill Out, Ambient, Folk & Soul), Club TV (CLB TV: with Club Sounds & Urban Music – from House to R’n’B) as well as Jukebox (with Pop and Rock Classics from the 60s to today). The channels offer a mixture of international and German productions and thus complement the music offering of the MTV channels.
Success of Kabel Digital revitalizes the TV market
For many domestic and foreign channels, Kabel Digital was the opportunity to enter the German market. With the success of the packages, programme providers’ interest in marketing as part of Kabel Digital Home and Kabel Digital International has grown even further. “Every year we receive more than 100 inquiries from TV channels that would like to be included in one of the Kabel Digital programme packages. It is fascinating to experience how many creative ideas have emerged since we started this marketing route. When purchasing new channels, however, we have to pay attention to the attractiveness and balance of the entire package. Our aim is to provide customers with a mixture for 10.90 euros a month that is fun for the whole family. Only programmes that are attractive to the majority of subscribers have a chance there,” says Dr Manuel Cubero, responsible for the television business on the management board of Kabel Deutschland.
From November, Kabel Digital Home offers 39 TV channels from the fields of documentaries & information, entertainment, feature films & series, sport, children, music and erotica. The price remains unchanged at 10.90 euros per month. The Kabel Digital International offering comprises a total of nine foreign-language packages in eight different languages. Prices range between 2.90 and 24.90 euros per month.
