The vehicle itself is a Mercedes Benz Actros articulated lorry and a 14m semi-trailer, which is fitted with a single-sided extension. The workstations for the graphics and Slomo operators are located in the extension. The company ProVan is responsible for the bodywork as a subcontractor.
A ClearCom Eclipse-Median Matrix with 32 ports is used as the command system, because the latest software generation from ClearCom proves to be very flexibly configurable and is therefore excellently suited for use in outside broadcast vans.
Al Jazeera Childrens Channel opted for a Sony MVS-8000G video mixer with 3.5 levels and 8 DVEs. Monitoring in the galleries is carried out via multiviewers from Everts and 47“ displays from Barco as well as 17“ and 26“ displays from Panasonic. The entire recording takes place on 2×6-channel Slomotion servers from EVS. The cameras are connected via fibre optics and modified for this purpose by Osi Fiber Optics. MCI also uses a Link wireless camera system for transmission. A LAWO mc²66 with 120 channels takes its place as the central component in the spatially separate audio gallery. This enables continuous 5.1 audio processing.
Special attention is paid to the air-conditioning system. On the one hand, the cooling capacity must be designed for an average outside temperature of 50°C, and on the other hand, the fresh-air and cooling-air inlets must be sufficiently protected against sand and dust contamination. Two redundant 50kVA generators guarantee a mains-independent power supply.
The vehicle can be operated with a crew of up to 13 people. All necessary training for the operating crew is carried out by MCI in Hamburg and Doha. The contract negotiations were concluded in July 2007, and the vehicle will be delivered in summer 2008.
