The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) announces many new program items within the Industry Insider series, which are an important part of the 2008 International CES (Jan. 7-10, 2008, Las Vegas). CES is the world’s largest consumer technology trade fair and is now being held by the CEA in the 40 year.
The new Industry Insider Sessions also include the well-known International Retail Power Panel, in which the CEOs of Best Buy and Circuit City will participate. Also newly added are the two programs , “Technology Impact: Five Things Technologists Don’t Get About Hollywood, ” and “Technology and Emerging Countries: Advancing Development Through Technology Investments.”
“The Industry Insider series has long been one of the most important event at CES. This time we are raising the level another step,” says Gary Shapiro, President and CEO of the CEA. “The top-class Retail Power Panel, the address by Yahoo!’s Jerry Yang, as well as new program items on the role of technology in international development or on the interplay of end devices and content will impress every CES visitor.”
The first panel session of the 2008 Industry Insider series, “Technology Impact: Five Things Technologists Don’t Get About Hollywood,” is scheduled for Monday, January 7, at 14:30. The participants in the panel will discuss the connection between consumer technology. Content and the entertainment industry. The session is sponsored by Variety.
Gary Shapiro moderates the International Retail Power Panel, which takes place on Tuesday, January 8, at 14:30. Participating are: Brad Anderson, Vice Chairman and CEO of Best Buy, and Phil Schoonover, Chairman, President and CEO of Circuit City. This session brings together the most important personalities in the retail industry, who will discuss current technologies and the future of the consumer technology retail business.
On Tuesday, January 9, from 9:30 to 13:00, the session “Technology and Emerging Countries: Advancing Development Through Technology Investments,” will examine the role of the CE industry with regard to long-term developments, future growth and the future of emerging markets. The program will open with a keynote by Nicholas Negroponte, founder of the One Laptop Per Child project and of the MIT Media Lab.
The Industry Insider presentations, as well as the address by Yahoo! CEO Jerry Yang, take place in the Las Vegas Hilton Theater.
The 2008 International CES will show the hottest products from more than 2,700 exhibitors across more than 30 product categories, including the latest from the areas of content, wireless, digital imaging, mobile electronics, home theater and audio.
