NEC Display Solutions introduced three design-focused PlasmaSync XC plasma displays: the 42-inch PlasmaSync 42XC10, 50-inch PlasmaSync 50XC10 and 60-inch PlasmaSync 60XC10. Intended for advanced home cinema and design-conscious digital signage, all three displays are HD Ready and accept 1080p signals.
Formats and image control
The 42XC10 has XGA resolution, while the 50- and 60-inch models use WXGA panels. Their 1080p-compatible inputs also support 24 Hz signals. NEC specified contrast ratios of 15,000:1 for the 42XC10 and 50XC10 and 10,000:1 for the 60XC10. Dynamic contrast adjustment responds automatically to particularly dark or bright image areas.
A 3D scan system processes moving and static images differently. Gamma can be adjusted from 2.1 to 2.4, while Colour Tune provides individual control over each primary colour.
Inputs, memories and operation
The displays provide six picture memories for storing separate parameters for sources such as DVD players, HD players, satellite receivers and video cameras. Settings for different operating conditions, including day and night use, can be recalled through RS-232. Seven display modes are available: 14:9, 4:3, 2.35:1, Zoom, Full, Dynamic and Underscan. Picture-in-picture can show two sources simultaneously, while side-by-side playback is available in 14 variants. Two digital inputs support HDCP, and an external RS-232 connection allows central control.
Availability and pricing
The PlasmaSync 42XC10 was scheduled for late November 2007 at €1,699 including VAT. The 50XC10 and 60XC10 were scheduled for early January 2008 at €2,549 and €6,079 including VAT respectively.
