The engine is among the most popular audio DSP cores for system-on-chip (SoC) designs in the OEM and B2B sectors, and is integrated into devices by a wide range of leading consumer-electronics manufacturers. The collaboration covers the full range of DTS technologies for consumer electronics, from DTS Digital Surround to DTS-HD Master Audio, which supports up to 7.1 discrete audio channels that match the master recording bit for bit.
Tensilica’s HiFi 2 Audio Engine is a fully programmable processor core that can be readily adapted to an SoC to provide high-quality 24-bit audio with low power consumption. The engine supports more than 20 codecs for a wide variety of audio standards. “By working with Tensilica, we help our customers implement our advanced sound technologies quickly and easily,” explains Brian Towne, Senior Vice President and General Manager of DTS’s Consumer Division. “The market for high-definition audio systems is developing rapidly, and the availability of DTS technologies on the HiFi 2 Audio Engine will support its continued growth.”

Availability. Tensilica is currently working intensively on implementing the DTS technologies. Licences for the Tensilica “HiFi 2” and “Diamond Standard 330HiFi” audio engines will be available in the first half of 2008.
