The print media market is changing drastically and presenting publishers with completely new requirements. Multimedia competition is displacing old models of information transmission. Anyone who wants to reach as many customer groups as possible is called upon to develop crossmedia strategies that connect print media and the internet. Publishers in particular that offer high-quality content can thus strengthen their brand and open up additional markets.
Hubert Burda Media consistently relies on the connection of online and print in order to benefit from integrated information, coordinated multimedia offerings and bundled journalistic competence. To implement this strategy, Burda Digital Sysems decided on an information management solution that consolidates data from separate, publishing-specific software systems in a single database without changing the structure and content of the data sources. This solution, developed by the Stuttgart company *instinctools on the GateOne Framework, takes over the standardisation and integration of various media formats and offers various interfaces for further distribution from the consolidated content pool. The content from the new database can thus now be used not only for the publisher’s own TV magazines but also in different media forms (online, mobile, TV, print).
The solution finds its first use in supplying the TV Today portal (
http://www.tvtoday.de) with current content. This is selected and prepared individually according to requirements.
Thanks to a convenient user interface, individual content packages can be put together quickly and efficiently. New customers can be responded to immediately, since no specific extraction and conversion programmes have to be developed. The content can be delivered either manually, on-demand or fully automatically via time control.
