The cinema mixing stage at the Mitteldeutsches Multimediazentrum in Halle has received a Dolby Premier Licence. Studios holding the certification meet international requirements for mixing feature films and DVDs.
James Seddon, Dolby Laboratories Consultant for New Studios, reviewed the final measurements in the facility. The certification covers the room, acoustic conditions and technical equipment. At the time, only three of more than fifty stages inspected by Seddon held the licence.
The approximately 200-square-metre mixing stage centres on a Harrison MPC4D digital film console. THX had also certified the studio earlier in 2007.
The studio fit-out cost more than €4 million and was financed through European Union, federal and City of Halle funding intended to support the regional media industry.
The facility was already booked through the end of the year. Berlin production company Moneypenny planned to mix the 90-minute feature “10 Seconds” there before Christmas.
MMZ has pursued sound production as a specialisation since 2004. The media centre opened on 4 June 2007 after investment of €35 million. Across more than 6,000 square metres, it includes studios, a 117-seat cinema, conference and meeting rooms, a cafeteria, offices and underground parking. Thirty-four companies, institutions and start-ups with around 200 employees were based there.
