According to figures from the market researchers at comScore (mymetrix.comscore.com), in August of this year alone, 129,286,000 visitors visited Gameforge’s game pages and spent a combined total of around 1.7 billion minutes there. In an international comparison with 100 other gaming-portal operators, the Karlsruhe company thus ranks sixth behind providers such as EA Online and Yahoo! Games.
When Klaas Kersting and Alexander Rösner launched the game forge Gameforge in December 2003, online games led little more than a niche existence. Wrongly, the two founders thought, and since then they have proved day after day how much potential lies in this industry.
“With the amount of time users put into our games, the Empire State Building could be rebuilt three and a half times every month,” CEO Klaas Kersting says, illustrating the dimensions. “Our company was profitable from day one. Since then, we have grown by more than 350 percent per year. We now employ almost 100 people and look upon a loyal gaming community spanning 23 language regions in 30 countries. The success does not really surprise us, however, because we have always believed in the online revolution. The future belongs to this market segment.”
