With a single button, users can record television programmes or video from a television, DVD player, PVR, camcorder or receiver onto a USB flash drive, USB hard drive, Apple iPod video, third-generation iPod nano, iPod classic, Sony PSP or PSP Slim. Because no PC is required, the compact device can also transfer camera images to USB storage while travelling.
Gamers can record a session and later review or edit it on a PC. Filmmakers with material on VHS, Hi8 or VHS-C tape can create a digital copy on a USB 2.0 hard drive without using PC software. For each connected device, users select one of three quality and file-size levels: good, better or best. At the highest setting, the device records at up to 720 by 480 or 576 pixels for NTSC, PAL and SECAM.
“Today’s increasingly mobile consumers have developed strong demand for solutions that allow them to take their recordings anywhere,” says Jon Peddie, President of Jon Peddie Research. “By transferring video without a PC, the new pocket-sized Pinnacle device takes video transfer to a new level.”
The unit measures 12.1 by 6.7 by 2.3 centimetres and accepts S-Video, composite video and analogue stereo audio inputs. Optional cables allow it to charge an iPod or PSP during transfer.
Pinnacle Video Transfer is scheduled to become available from 15 January 2008 through Pinnacle’s website, specialist retailers and online retailers for €129. The package includes the transfer device, three RCA audio and video cables, a SCART-to-RCA output adapter, a 110–230 V power supply and a quick-start guide.
