German IPTV Association Founded

The German IPTV Association was founded in Berlin to support the technological, economic and creative potential of the IPTV industry and encourage innovation, standards and exchange between research and industry.

Corinna Poeszus of Universal Publishing Production Music, TeleClix managing director Alexander Schulz-Heyn and Prof. Robert Strzebkowski of the Berlin University of Applied Sciences were elected to the board of the German IPTV Association.

Founding members included I-D Media, EWE TEL, Universal Publishing Production Music, Bauer Digital, Hasso Plattner Institute, Nacamar, DME, Mediaclipping, TeleClix, Digicast, TU Berlin, Kidss TV, Micromovie, USP TV-Produktion and other companies and sole proprietors.

The association defined IPTV as moving-image transmission over Internet Protocol across stationary and mobile devices and IP-capable networks. It aimed to strengthen members’ positions with broadcasters, aggregators, advertisers, viewers and legislative institutions, promote information exchange, innovation, media diversity, political representation, media education and self-regulation.

Its 2008 workshop series began at Gruner + Jahr in Hamburg with around 200 participants discussing IPTV business models. Further planned subjects included technology and platforms, publishers, content, advertising and law, concepts and design, and audiences.
