Dolby Laboratories is demonstrating technologies at Mobile World Congress intended to improve sound and playback performance on mobile phones and portable media players.

At stands 2.1B37 in hall 2 and 7C62 in hall 7, Dolby showed Dolby Mobile, which provides a surround-style listening experience for music, film and television material on mobile devices.

The company also demonstrated the aacPlus audio-compression format for downloads, streaming and broadcast applications on phones.

“Entertainment on mobile phones and portable media players can sound better,” said Dolby Laboratories vice president for marketing François Modarresse. He said Dolby Mobile was designed to support richer audio in new mobile products.

Dolby had recently announced two phones developed with NTT DoCoMo and Sharp using Dolby Mobile. The FOMA SH905i and FOMA SH905iTV were available in Japan.

The company also reached an agreement with RMI Corporation to implement Dolby Mobile on the RMI Alchemy platform for portable media-player applications.

At Mobile World Congress, Dolby additionally demonstrated a prototype incorporating Dolby Mobile on Texas Instruments’ OMAP platform.
