In his 60-second film ‘Hallo Hand’, the 34-year-old shows wild jumps from one life situation to another by snapping his fingers.
The mobile-phone film was created as part of the ‘Mobile Movie School’ in Weiterstadt, a one-day workshop. ‘With a mobile phone, I have many more possibilities for realising images creatively,’ says Raudnitzky, better known to many viewers as ‘Raudy’. ‘It is easy to handle, mobile and, above all, spontaneous.’
The prizes were presented in Berlin on February 9, 2008. MTV presenter Patrice Bouédibéla, who had also assumed patronage of the competition, hosted the award ceremony at O2 Germany’s capital-city representation. Alongside the award, all winners received a certificate and a high-quality Nokia N95 8 GB mobile phone to shoot further Mobile Movies. First-place winner Thomas Raudnitzky is also allowed to spend two days on the set of a German feature film and look over the makers’ shoulders.
In the ‘Professionals’ category, Christine Päch and Mikkel Due Pedersen took first place with ‘Wild Nights’. The design students from Anhalt University of Applied Sciences in Dessau received prize money of 10,000 euros. The O2 Mobile Movie Award is the most highly endowed prize of its kind. In 2004, it was the first award ever announced in Germany for mobile short films.
Because the competition was under the patronage of Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg, all winners and their accompanying persons were subsequently invited to the Medienboard reception at the Ritz Carlton, where Til Schweiger received the Ernst Lubitsch Prize for his film ‘Rabbit Without Ears’.
