Maya Unlimited price falls as Extension 2 arrives

Autodesk cuts Maya Unlimited pricing and announces Maya 2008 Extension 2 with modelling, UV and Maya Muscle improvements.

Autodesk has reduced the price of Maya Unlimited and announced Maya 2008 Extension 2.

Marc Petit, Senior Vice President at Autodesk Media & Entertainment, said the lower price was intended to make the Maya Unlimited toolset available to more new users and facilities expanding Maya-based pipelines.

Maya Unlimited includes every component supplied with Maya Complete, plus Maya Fluid Effects, Maya nCloth, Maya Hair, Maya Fur and Maya Live. Pricing for Maya Complete remains unchanged.

The recommended price for a new standalone Maya Unlimited licence fell from €7,349 to €5,575. A new network licence fell from €8,819 to €6,970. Maya Complete 2008 users could upgrade to Maya Unlimited 2008 for an Autodesk list price of €3,350. The prices took effect on 18 February 2008.

Autodesk Maya 2008 Extension 2

Maya 2008 Extension 2 was expected to become available as a download in March 2008 for Maya Complete 2008 and Maya Unlimited 2008 Subscription customers with Autodesk Gold Support. It was not sold separately.

New selection-management functions improve control of large and geometrically complex modelling elements. Symmetrical modelling adds functions including Seam Preservation.

New and revised UV tools streamline texturing workflows and give artists more control over placement.

Maya Muscle adds features for controlling skin and underlying muscle behaviour. These include a Smart Collisions toolset, support for three new force elements and additional control over skin movement.
