As HD-capable playback devices become more common, demand for corresponding content is growing. The compact AHD Z500 camcorder records in HD and can also produce material for DVD and web formats.
The PocketDV AHD Z500 records at 1080p with 1.5 million pixels and up to 30 frames per second, while the AHD Z500 Plus reaches up to 60 frames per second. The handheld device weighs 177 grams without its battery and includes a three-times optical autofocus zoom. A five-megapixel CMOS sensor with 2592 × 1944 pixels supports still images up to eight megapixels.
1080p HD recordings use a 16:9 aspect ratio, while standard-definition television material can be recorded and played back in 4:3.
SD and SDHC cards with capacities up to 32 GB can be used for storage. AVC/H.264 encoding provides recording times of up to 15 minutes per gigabyte, or as much as eight hours on a 32 GB SDHC card.
The supplied remote control, rotating 2.4-inch color TFT LCD and night mode support shooting in different conditions. The PocketDV AHD Z500 has an HD output and connects to an HD or standard-definition television through the included component cable. It can also be used as a digital still camera and voice recorder.
The Aiptek AHD Z500 measures 192 × 171 × 77 mm and weighs approximately 177 grams without its battery. Power is supplied through the included adapter or USB connection. The package includes the AHD Z500, NP-60 battery, USB cable, power adapter, YUV component-video cable, AV cable, remote control, case, wrist strap, software and manual.
