Planar Announces 70-Inch Direct-View LCD Monitor for Europe

Planar Systems has announced the Planar m70L, a fully featured 70-inch HD LCD monitor for commercial use.

Introduced at Integrated Systems Europe 2008 in January, the m70L expands Planar’s m-Series display family for control-room, video-wall and digital-signage applications.

The m70L builds on Planar’s commercial m-Series LCD displays and shares their connectivity, menu systems, electronics and design for display integration across applications.

Professional features include integrated power management and automation, a 178-degree viewing angle and compatibility with multiple video sources. Planar also includes image-quality loss compensation and automatic ambient-backlight control for continuous operation in changing environments.

The 70-inch monitor is designed for long-term, year-round commercial operation. Its 1080p HD resolution, large screen, 600-nit brightness and HD-SDI connectivity are intended for uses including utility control rooms and television broadcast centers.

“Consumer displays such as televisions are not designed for demanding applications of this kind and may cause performance degradation and shorter product life,” said Kristina K. Gorriaran, vice president and general manager of Planar’s Control Room & Signage business, formerly Clarity Visual Systems. She said the m70L and the commercial m-Series were designed for long-term reliability and service life.

Other m70L features include:

1500:1 contrast ratio

Backlight control for longer service life, rated at 50,000 hours at half brightness

An integrated real-time clock for scheduling events such as power and source changes

Planar Big Picture and WallNet technologies for image processing and automated display monitoring

Portrait or landscape orientation

VESA-compliant mounting holes

RoHS certification
