ZyXEL Adds HomePlug AV to Media Adapter

ZyXEL’s DMA-1100P combines a digital media adapter with integrated HomePlug AV powerline networking.

ZyXEL has combined its growing HomePlug AV Powerline Communication portfolio with its home-networking and entertainment expertise to simplify streaming multimedia content to televisions and audio systems.

The DMA-1100P carries networked multimedia over household electrical wiring at rates of up to 200 megabits per second with nearly constant performance. It joins the Ethernet-only DMA-1000 and wireless/Ethernet DMA-1000W as the third adapter in the series, targeting users who have adopted HomePlug AV for home networking.

The system reflects the growing practice of storing films, music, and photographs centrally on PCs, external hard drives, and network-attached storage. The DMA-1100P acts as the interface between the television and data source, delivering content without a fan to either a screen or, for music, a home audio system.

Signals are prepared in real time without claimed quality loss. Multimedia data can reach the television at high speed over Ethernet, USB, or integrated powerline networking.

A digital HDMI connection carries video and audio and supports HDTV and Full HD streaming. Other features include HDCP-protected transmission, an SPDIF digital output, and USB 2.0.

Supported video formats include WMV9, AVI, MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, Xvid, and DivX. Image support covers JPEG, BMP, PNG, TIFF, and GIF, while audio formats include MP3, WMV, LPCM, WAV, and AAC.

A web-based interface guides installation. ZyXEL uses Microsoft Windows Media Connect, supporting UPnP and HTTP standards and Digital Living Network Alliance guidelines. Operation is handled through the supplied infrared remote control.

The DMA-1100P will be shown at CeBIT on ZyXEL’s stand C72 in Hall 13 and is scheduled for availability at the end of March. It costs €229 including VAT. A bundle with a ZyXEL PLA-401 powerline adapter, normally €88 separately, costs €299 including VAT.
