The monumental masterpiece “Die Färberinnen” by NRW award winner and Brandl master student Sala Lieber, measuring 250 x 200 cm, went to a Düsseldorf entrepreneur for 14,000 euros immediately after the fair opened. Given the strong response to the artist’s neo-baroque painting style, extending as far as America, the two gallery owners Meike Knüppe and Martina Kaiser had been certain that a sale would take place.
The fact that demand would turn into a veritable “rush” nevertheless came as a surprise. Negotiations took place at the fair with various collectors and art lovers who would also like to call a work such as Sala Lieber’s “Die Färberinnen” their own. But the artist’s elaborate painting technique means a long wait can be expected. Some of the art lovers are unwilling to accept this and are now travelling to Düsseldorf.
Following the sale of “Die Färberinnen”, Sala Lieber’s only currently available large-format work, “Der Hahn”, hangs there in the Große Kunstausstellung NRW at Museum Kunstpalast. The collectors agree: whoever acquires this painting will own a work with a museum exhibition history. “Der Hahn”, 250 x 200 cm, will, it seems certain, have changed owners through ART GALERIE 7 directly from the museum exhibition before the Karlsruhe fair ends.
Meanwhile, a Sala Lieber collector from Ulm secured the screen print “Louis XIX” for 1,700 EUR directly at Art Karlsruhe. An edition of 50 copies that can call itself unique in colour, since the motif was printed in fifty different colour variations, each one determined by the artist herself.
But it was not only Sala Lieber’s works that led to ART GALERIE 7’s sales success story, which had already prompted a redesign of the stand on the fair’s second day. As an emerging artist, Sandra Schlipkoeter had caught the eye of a Düsseldorf collector at the Düsseldorf academy’s open studios in February this year. At the fair, he seized the opportunity and acquired Sandra Schlipkoeter’s work “Landschaftsmalerei” for 4,000 EUR Igor Oleinikov parted with the last of his available landscape paintings, which went to private collections for 6,800 EUR and 8,600 EUR.
The photographic works in Georg Küttinger’s ONE ARTIST SHOW caught the attention of the many strolling visitors and achieved an exceptional sales record. Five works from the “Landschaften” series moved to Karlsruhe, into the ownership of a bank, taking a journey through landscapes from Tunisia to Spain for 1,800 EUR each. Three further tree landscapes by the same artist (1,800 EUR each) were also sold, as was the last print of “Col du Galibier2”, which thereby sold out. All of Georg Küttinger’s photographic works exist in a small edition of 5 copies. A total of 12 photographic works by Georg Küttinger were sold in just two days of the fair.
ART GALERIE 7 is already drawing a positive conclusion for its programme of young artists at Art Karlsruhe 2008 after only two days. Sales by the gallery specialising in young art show that, alongside established and well-known names, current artistic positions in particular are highly sought after on the market.
