Quark Inc. announced today that it is combining its core expertise in desktop publishing, server-based solutions, and workgroup workflow systems to release an enterprise platform for the developing dynamic-publishing market: Quark Dynamic Publishing Solution, or DPS.
The enterprise-publishing platform combines flexible design with automated output. It is intended to create professionally designed, customer-specific communications for print, web, mobile, and electronic devices.
Quark’s move into dynamic publishing addresses the growing challenges of multichannel publishing and extends its QuarkXPress desktop-publishing software.

Dynamic Publishing Defined
Dynamic publishing automates the creation and release of information across multiple channels, from print and web to email and other output formats. Users create reusable content components that can be combined into different document types for different audiences. Print, web, and electronic communications can therefore be generated from the same content.

Quark Dynamic Publishing Solution
Quark DPS consists of desktop applications for content design and server technologies for automating publishing workflows. It is based on open standards to simplify integration with enterprise content-management systems and other business applications.
The platform is intended for organizations that create high-quality designed content and need to publish it efficiently and quickly in multiple formats without losing detail, consistency, or brand integrity.
Quark positions DPS as a way to improve operational efficiency, customer communications, and publishing processes for professional newspaper, magazine, book, and journal publishers; organizations producing both print and online titles; and marketing-communications teams and service agencies producing data sheets, white papers, brochures, labels, manuals, and other materials.
“Companies need publishing solutions that help engage customers through personalized content and deliver communications through the channels they prefer, including print, web, email, PDF, and SMS,” says IDC program vice president Melissa Webster. “These requirements are driving rapid growth in the dynamic enterprise publishing market.”

What Dynamic Publishing Means for Designers
Dynamic publishing builds on design tools such as QuarkXPress, which designers and creative professionals will continue to use. The component-based publishing process removes repetitive manual work. With Quark DPS, designers retain creative freedom while automating document customization.
