Both units are also intended for more complex car-audio installations.
Removable storage is a principal feature of the two CD tuners.
Unlike Alpine’s entry-level systems, they include a USB connection for flash drives and a range of MP3 players. Alongside MP3, both units support AAC and WMA. Their functions are otherwise identical. The CDE-9882Ri includes an iPod connection cable and uses red and blue illumination with a silver front panel. The black CDE-9880R provides green or amber button illumination.
The internal amplifier is rated at a maximum of four times 50 W. Three preamplifier outputs allow installations using multiple amplifiers and loudspeakers.
Both head units have a rotary volume control, a flip-down front hiding the CD slot and a high-resolution display. An optional infrared remote can control the system from any seat.
