Two new works for Apple users are now available in the Smart Book series, intended to help readers install, use and fully exploit the software packages.
SmartBooks is introducing two books for Apple users in March. They cover the new iWork ’08 office package and the iLife ’08 multimedia suite.
Gabi Brede and Horst-Dieter Radke jointly present the “iWork ’08 Praxisbuch” for Pages, Keynote and Numbers. The 560-page compendium is aimed at users who want to make full use of the iWork applications. It promises to guide beginners while also covering users with experience of the previous version.
iWork ’08 is Apple’s office package and includes the Pages word processor, Numbers spreadsheet application and Keynote presentation software. The book is intended to explain how to create impressive presentations, polished brochures and intelligent calculations on a computer.
Its chapters aim to explain step by step how users can work effectively and simply with the applications. Readers learn how to create individual presentation layouts, use effects and work with PowerPoint templates. In word processing, the book covers incorporating Word files, formatting options and professional text revision.
Matthias Eckardt has used Macs since 1993, working with Apple systems professionally and privately. His fourth Mac book covers the new iLife ’08 and explains how to use the multimedia suite.
Across more than 400 pages, the book introduces installation of the iLife ’08 suite and then covers each component chapter by chapter. Subjects include the connection between iTunes and the iPod, along with iPhoto, iMovie HD, iDVD, GarageBand and iWeb.
Illustrated step-by-step instructions explain how to transfer existing film material to an iPod, iPhone or Sony PSP. Readers also learn how to create a slideshow from holiday photographs, design greeting cards and generate photo calendars. The applications can also be used to create complete websites. Further subjects include managing digital photographs, digital video editing, creating podcasts and burning DVDs.
The book also includes web links presented at the end of each chapter. They point to software extensions such as plug-ins or codecs available for download online.
