Mario Lombardo Named VisualLeader of the Year

The LeadAcademy has named Mario Lombardo ‘VisualLeader of the Year 2008’.

The LeadAwards are Germany’s highest distinction for print and online media. They have been presented for 16 years and are highly regarded throughout the media industry. The “VisualLeader” award does not recognise an individual piece but a complete body of design work, honouring Mario Lombardo’s career to date.

The exhibition “VisualLeader – The Best of German Magazines” ran at Hamburg’s Deichtorhallen from 6 to 31 March 2008 and included Lombardo’s work for SPEX, DUMMY, PAGE, Gute Aussichten, Rapid Eye Movies and Background Records.

Mario Lombardo currently holds a teaching position in communication design at the University of the Arts Bremen. Representing Deputy Rector Andrea Rauschenbusch, he supervises the student design team behind the university magazine VIER.

Lombardo has worked as an art director since 2000 and has held various teaching positions at design universities and institutes since 2002. He has won more than 40 national and international design awards, including the Design Award of the Federal Republic of Germany, the Red Dot Award, the Young Guns Award in Australia and an award from Creative Club Austria.
