To reflect this strategy in its organisation, the Mobile and Devices Business Unit (MDBU) will be integrated into Adobe’s Experience and Technology Group, led by Chief Technology Officer (CTO) Kevin Lynch.

“With the growing volume of digital content, customers around the world expect Adobe to provide a platform for creating rich experiences across a variety of media and devices,” says Shantanu Narayen, President and CEO of Adobe. “To build this integrated platform, we need to connect our desktop and device technologies closely. By combining our Mobile and Platform business units under the leadership of CTO Kevin Lynch, we can meet our customers’ different requirements.”

Gary Kovacs, Vice President of Product Management and Marketing for Adobe’s Mobile and Devices Business Unit, will become Vice President and General Manager of the new business unit on May 1, reporting to Kevin Lynch in this position. Kovacs takes over the previous responsibilities of Senior Vice President Al Ramadan, who is leaving the company on April 30 after almost ten years at Adobe and Macromedia.

Kovacs has been with the company since 2003, initially as Vice President of Product Marketing for Macromedia. Previously, Kovacs was President of Zi Corporation, a globally active mobile communications company. Before that, he spent over nine years at IBM, where he held a number of senior positions in products and sales.

Adobe has also announced that Rob Tarkoff, Senior Vice President of Corporate Development, will become Senior Vice President of the Business Productivity Business Unit (BPBU) on May 1. Tarkoff succeeds David Mendels, who is leaving the company after a total of 16 years at Adobe and Macromedia.

Since joining Adobe in 2007, Tarkoff has played a decisive role in the company’s strategic direction and in identifying growth opportunities. He previously held various management positions at EMC, including Senior Vice President of Global Alliances and Outsourcing, Senior Vice President and General Manager of EMC Captiva Software, and Executive Vice President and Chief Strategy Officer of Documentum, Inc.

Paul Weiskopf, Adobe’s Vice President of Strategy, Mergers & Acquisitions and Investments, will succeed Tarkoff as Senior Vice President of Corporate Development. Weiskopf has been at Adobe since 2005 and develops long-term investment strategies in close cooperation with the management team. In this role, he also played a decisive part in the acquisitions of Macromedia, Scene 7 and Virtual Ubiquity. Before joining Adobe, he was Vice President of Strategy and Corporate Development at Hewlett Packard.
