M-Audio expands Studiophile CX range with CX8 and CX5

M-Audio adds CX8 and CX5 studio monitors with a wide listening area and controls for different monitoring environments.

M-Audio has introduced the Studiophile CX8 and CX5 studio monitors for accurate monitoring across different production environments. The monitors use a purpose-designed waveguide and provide a wide listening area suited to larger studio spaces. The Studiophile CX range is based on M-Audio’s established monitor line and is designed to reduce distortion, maintain reproduction outside the central listening position and adapt to different rooms.

The nearfield range comprises the CX8 with an eight-inch woofer and the CX5 with a five-inch woofer. The CX5 targets smaller studios, home studios and editing rooms, while the CX8 is intended for medium and large production environments.

New features in the Studiophile CX monitor range:

The monitors are designed for headroom, accurate frequency response, low distortion and reduced listening fatigue.

The OptImage IV waveguide broadens the listening area and is intended to maintain clarity away from the central position, including sessions with several listeners in a postproduction studio.

Adjustable Acoustic Space controls modify the frequency response to compensate for the room.

Purpose-designed Kevlar drivers provide bass reproduction and durability.

The tweeter extends the high-frequency response to 30 kHz.

Richard Ngo-Tran, Segment Marketing Manager at Avid, said the CX monitors were intended to raise performance within their price class.

Availability and pricing

The Studiophile CX5 and CX8 nearfield monitors were expected in the second quarter of 2009 at recommended prices of €369 and €459 per speaker respectively.
