On Wednesday, 16 April 2008, the expanded Senate of the Saar College of Fine Arts confirmed Professor Ivica Maksimovic, who has led the Saarbrücken art and design academy as rector since 2004, in office for the next four years.
Maksimovic secured well over the required two-thirds majority in the first ballot. Professor Dr. Matthias Winzen will also remain in office as Vice-Rector.
Ivica Maksimovic was born in Yugoslavia in 1953 and has lived in Saarland since 1962. He studied under Oskar Holweck at the Saarland University of Applied Sciences and at Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences. From 1980, he held senior positions at various advertising agencies. Since the Saar College of Fine Arts was founded in 1989, Maksimovic has held a professorship there in communication design and advertising. He owns the advertising agency Maksimovic & Partners.
During Maksimovic’s previous term, important higher-education policy decisions were made at HBKsaar. The resumption of art-teacher training and the introduction of the new Media Art and Design program both took place during his first term.
The number of professorial staff was secured. A generational transition was initiated through recent appointments: Professor Dr. Rolf Sachsse for design history and design theory, Professor Dr. Matthias Winzen for art history and art theory, Professor Tamás Waliczky for new digital media, Professor Indra Kupferschmid for typography, Professor Else Gabriel for video and performance, and Professor Georg Winter for sculpture.
