Cray and Intel announced a multi-year collaboration in high-performance computing. The partners plan to develop HPC systems and technologies with a focus on multi-core processing and improved interconnects.

They said the resulting systems would be intended to solve complex scientific and engineering problems. Media reports suggested that the first Intel-based Cray supercomputers arising from the collaboration would not be available before 2011.
